UAS School of Education Accreditation Renewal

The University of Alaska Southeast School of Education has been renewed accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education without qualifications. The official notification was in a letter to UAS dated May 15, 2012. “WELL DONE to you all for pulling together and producing a very successful result that is a credit to you, your students, and to those we serve,” said Provost Rick Caulfield. “Let’s keep moving forward to continue producing the best educators and educational leaders in Alaska!”
NCATE currently accredits 623 institutions which produce two-thirds of the nation’s new teacher graduates each year. The U. S. Department of Education recognizes NCATE as a specialized accrediting body for schools, colleges, and departments of education. NCATE is composed of more than 30 professional and policymaker organizations representing millions of Americans committed to quality teaching. It was founded in 1954 by the teaching profession and the states. NCATE continues its mission today: the profession and the states working together for excellence in teacher preparation and development. NCATE accreditation is required by the state of Alaska. The next NCATE visit to UAS is scheduled for 2017.
